Apparently two cats & a dog are not a sufficient number of pets...so we decided to get the boys a fish tank. Nothing major...a 5 gallon tank with a few gold fish. What are we nuts. I barely remember to feed the others. What in Gods green earth makes me think I will remember to feed the fish...especially since the tank is in the boys bedroom. I'm the Queen of Out of Sight Out of Mind.
But crazy as we are we did it...On Sunday, I dutifully set up the tank with all the plants and gravel and water and let the filter run for 24 hours, just like the instructions said. On Monday afternoon we went and made our fish pet choices... 3 boring goldfish and 2 fancy ones...the boys picked them, and I have no idea what kind they are other than they are some sort of goldfish. The Big One proceeded to name his, Sharkie...The Little One named his...Poopie...yes Poopie. Once again, he proves that he is his fathers son.
By Tuesday night we were down to 4 fish. One of the boring goldfish (who I named Moe, Larry & Curly) had passed onto the great beyond. Of course managing to get himself tangled up in the fake foliage in the tank. After I finally got him out, he was unceremoniously flushed away to be with all the other fish in the sky...sent off while The Hubby was saying the mourners Kaddish. Being such a good mother...we did all of this without telling The Boys. I wasn't sure how they would react and I didn't feel like dealing with it.
Unfortunately, by this morning we had lost another one. It seems Larry could not bear the thought of being away from Moe and he too went onto the great beyond, tangling himself in the exact same spot that was Moes final resting place. The Big One found out and was upset for about 10 seconds. At least it wasn't Sharkie or Poopie...I fear that their demise will not be handled quite so well.
So for now we have 3 fish, 2 cats & a dog...
**UPDATE**
So for now we have 2 fish, 2 cats & a dog...
yep...as of about 2 hours ago, Curly joined Moe & Larry in the great beyond. The Big One is not handling it very well. He misses them. They became very attached in the 24-48 hours they were with us.
